Bringing Happiness and Employee

Now that you believe that happy employees will help you improve your bottom line, increase profitability and decrease turnover, let's discuss what you can do to bring these positive psychology interventions into your organization.

First, I highly suggest you start learning and applying these tools in your life. Once you feel comfortable and trust that these positive psychology and coaching tools can help improve your overall wellbeing and increase happiness level, we can move to get these tools into your team member's hands.

Whether you have a small business or work for a multi-billion corporation, you have to look at your finances before making any investment. Do you have a training/employee development budget (regardless of how you call it)? How much, if anything, can you dedicate to these specific ideas of employees' wellbeing?

If you do not have a budget at this point, what can you do to bring happiness and wellbeing tools to your company? Here are a few ideas.

  • Write about it in your company newsletter, emails, intranet, etc.
  • With your knowledge and personal experience, develop a short in-person workshop. Start with a small group of employees willing and ready to learn more about happiness.
  • For larger companies, invite employees to an online event and present and share practical and real-life tools that worked for you.
  • Provide one-pager instructions and the pdf file they can use as a reference.
  • Look for volunteers, folks like yourself willing and able to help with this effort.
  • Become a member of free Positive Psychology groups where you will find folks willing to help with your effort.
  • Find inexpensive online courses to train yourself and your volunteers.
  • Look for Positive Psychology Experts willing to do a free session for your employees.

Do you have a budget? Great. Here are a few ideas to use your budget effectively, depending on its size.

  • Do the research and interview potential candidates. What's important is that you trust the delivery will focus on both employees' happiness and company profitability.
  • Start small. If the Trainer can provide online courses, see if you can get licenses for your small team first. Get the feedback before you move to the next level.
  • Invite the Trainer to organize the Launch and Learn session, online or in person. Invite only employees genuinely interested in this subject. Never make any of the happiness/wellbeing sessions mandatory.
  • Have you got good feedback on the Lunch and Learn session? Great. Discuss specifically customized workshops for the need of your employees. Ideally, have on-demand online learning (streaming) integrated with live online sessions. This ideal combination will provide employees with the full benefits of scheduled training and an option to study in their own free time. Decide on the lengths of the workshop with a specific outcome.
  • Ask the Trainer to organize employees' involvement by creating Accountability Partners Sessions to assure a positive outcome for all.
  • Expend the workshop to another small group of employees. The smaller the group, the bigger the results as long as the Trainer is actively involved. You will be looking for the trainers' involvement during the sessions and, even more importantly, between the sessions to ensure positive results and changes in employees' personal and business life outcomes.
  • Establish weekly Q and A and coaching sessions with the Instructor. Ideally, this is a part of any proposal you sign with the Trainer. Once the employees start practicing the tools they learn in the workshops; these live sessions will be precious to everyone, including the Senior Management Team involved n the process.
  • And if your budget is limited (even if it is not), Train the Trainer sessions are what I highly recommend. You would find someone in your company (or a group of folks ideally) most interested in learning this subject profoundly and have them get "Certified" on the process your employees love.

I hope some of these ideas will help you start improving your organization, help employees improve their overall wellbeing, and at the same time, improve the company's bottom line.
